For a matter of some years, Lancaster Royal Grammar School had endured issues following the installation of four new boilers. A plate heat exchanger had been included to separate the new boilers from the existing old pipework, and though the new boilers were sized to provide enough heat to the system, flaws in the project design meant that this heat could not be effectively delivered to the heat emitters in the school.
Horsfield’s were asked to assess the heating system and provide a solution.

Existing plate heat exchanger
Removal of the existing PHE (plate heat exchanger) was necessary to resolve the problems the school was encountering.

Pipework modifications
Following a thorough site survey, pipework was prefabricated at our workshops and work began to modify the system to operate effectively without a PHE in situ.

Completed works
With all works completed and the problematic PHE now gone, the boiler room was left in good order.
